Education, Skills & Employment

One Family Welfare to work initiatives – progression to education, skill development and employability

One Family Graduates 2011

Would you like to get back to education and/ or work but don’t know where to start?  Do you need support in making changes to your life?

At One Family, we realise how difficult and daunting it can feel if you haven’t worked for a while, or have never worked, so we run courses to help.

We have a number of programmes to help create positive futures for people who parent alone, where you can learn new skills to progress to training, education and employment.

We understand the experience of parenting alone and sharing parenting, and how challenging it can be to move back into education or find fulfilling employment. So, everyone on our programmes also gets to work with their own mentor and coach.

Our courses provide accreditations recognised on the National Framework of Qualifications – and if you sign up, we can give you free, on-site childcare.

Who are One Family’s free programmes for?

Programmes are free to parents in one-parent families and include:

  • Steps to New Futures. This accredited programme helps you to focus on goal setting, getting on top of your habits and finding motivation.
  • New Futures with up to FETAC Level 5 accreditation is our flagship programme. It offers distinctive career development with wrap-around supports.
  • Options delivers accredited programmes which include: enterprise skills, work trials, customer care, essential skills, social care and others, giving parents enhanced skills for the labour-market and beyond.
  • Passport provides a bridge to learning and education by providing additional academic qualifications and experience. It can help to secure a place in further/higher education and ensures that participants are well prepared for learning.
  • Career Clinic takes a proactive and creative approach to analysing professional career challenges.
  • Marks & Start offers pre-employment training and a two-week probationary work placement with Marks & Spencer.
  • Engagement mentoring
