Legal

Parenting alone or sharing parenting can be stressful and sometimes things can look like a legal minefield. We are here to help. We run Free Legal Advice Evenings at One Family, as well as having trained askonefamily helpline staff to help with queries on 1890 662212. Our articles give you basic information everything from custody and access to maintenance and to what to expect if you go to court.

Free Legal Advice Evenings at One Family

One Family has developed its services to include a Free Legal Advice Centre for all your family law queries in Cherish House, 2 Lower Pembroke Street, Dublin 2. The centre runs on a Tuesday each month from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on an appointment only basis.

A legally qualified FLAC volunteer will be available to give legal advice on all your family law matters. They will help you to establish whether or not there is a legal solution to your issue, explain what options are open to you and direct you to other services for further assistance.

To make an appointment please call reception on 01 662 9212. For further information on legal issues see our “Legal” section in our Useful Links

Custody, Access and Guardianship
This article gives a brief explanation of all the latest terminology.

Maintenance of Children
This article gives a breakdown on how maintenance works in Ireland. It is not related to whether a parent has actual access to the child or not, it is a stand-alone obligation.

What to Expect in Court
If you need to go to court, this article explains how proceedings work and lets you know what the experience might be like for you.

Alternatives to Court

Going to court is not the only way of working out arrangments for access or maintenance.  Mediation is another way of helping parents reach an agreement, with the support of a trained mediator.  This process can help separating parents to co-operate and work together for the benefit of their children and therefore help to minimise conflict.
