Our Work and Objectives
One Family’s Work and Objectives
One Family has been working to make better lives for one-parent families since 1972. We are Ireland’s leading national organisation for one-parent families.
We understand that parenting alone can be tough and we work with all types and all members of one-parent families, respecting the realities of family life in Ireland, to affect positive change and achieve equality and social inclusion for all one-parent families in Ireland.
The families we help are four times more likely to live in poverty than other families.
Despite recent cutbacks, we continue to offer high-quality, much-needed services to the many different one-parent families in Ireland, often parenting in difficult circumstances, and the professionals working with them. We also work hard to ensure that one-parent families have a clear voice that is heard by policy and decision-makers.
Our askonefamily helpline is always there with a listening ear for parents who need help. Our courses and counselling offer help to people who parent alone to get better jobs, be confident parents and have happier children.
We are working for affordable childcare for all children and education for parents who need it. We are also working for the constitution to be expanded to give rights and protection to all family forms and have created a Family Day event in May when everyone in Ireland is invited to celebrate family diversity.
See here for more information about One Family, our services, mission and vision.
You can see how we change lives by reading the success stories of lone parents who have experienced One Family’s services here.
Here is a short video that highlights the need for constitutional change so that all types of families – including those with one parent – are recognised and protected.
